If you have never joined a basketball bracket with Yahoo’s Fantasy Sports service, here is a quick walkthrough.

1. Go to www.yahoo.com and sign in to your account. If you don’t have a yahoo account, create one. It takes seconds.

2. Visit our public pool link posted above. You will see that you have been invited to “Keith’s Tourney Pick’em Pool” (that’s me!). Click that “Join Pool” button.

You will need to select a name for your bracket, and be sure to make your picks by the entry deadline.

Important Dates & Scoring

-Teams will be announced on March 15th.
-Your entries must be selected by March 19th at 12:15 EDT.
-The tournament begins on March 19th, and the championship game will be played April 6th.

We are using the Yahoo default scoring system for this pool: (1-2-4-8-16-32). This is a very traditional way to score a basketball bracket, and there is a lot more value in making the right picks in the later rounds. For those of you new to basketball brackets, you get 1 point for each correct pick in the first round, 2 points for each correct pick in the second round, so on and so forth.

My Long-shots

Most people know my penchant for betting a few bucks on the underdogs. I picked three teams who are considered “dark horses” to make a decent run. Kentucky looks unbeatable, but laying $10 on a team with a potential payout of $2000 is hard to turn down.

In my opinion, odds on every team EXCEPT Kentucky are pretty good because it seems like the whole world is betting on Kentucky at the moment.

I took:

Indiana for $10 at 200:1. Payoff = $2000
Butler for $10 at 75:1. Payoff = $750
Oklahoma for $10 at 66:1. Payoff = $660
